The gurus are selected based on their long-term track record, said Dr. Charlie Tian, research director of http://GuruFocus.com. Over the years they have beaten the benchmarks by wide margins; most of them are value-investors.

Not all the stocks gurus pick go up, some of them go down initially. GuruFocus.com features a Bargains page where investors may find bargains. With some homework, investors may buy stocks at lower prices than what the gurus have paid.
